John Lin

MD

Dr. Lin earned his BA (1994) and MD (1998) at the University of Virginia. After completing pediatric residency in the US Air Force, he spent one year as a general pediatrician before starting pediatric critical care medicine fellowship training at The Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. Upon fellowship completion in 2005, he completed his remaining military service obligation in San Antonio, TX. As Chief of Pediatric Critical Care Services for the San Antonio Military Medical Consortium, he partnered with Air Force and Army Medical Corps leadership to develop practice guidelines, training programs, and administrative approaches to best meet the medical and unique military needs of his patient population while addressing the challenges of high personnel turnover inherent in the military. Since joining Washington University in 2011, he has continued work on program development and implementation of unit- and hospital-wide initiatives using process improvement methods and emphasizing multi-professional collaboration. His academic interests lie in evaluating interventions that impact the course of critically ill patients in three areas: (1) identification of unique characteristics within critical illness that can guide potential targeted therapies; (2) implementation of specific task-based processes that improve individual or team performance; and (3) systems-based interventions that promote positive behavior changes.
