NIA Now Accepting Applications for GEMSSTAR Program

The National Institute on Aging (NIA) is now accepting applications for funding through the Grants for Early Medical Surgical Subspecialists Transition to Aging Research (GEMSSTAR) Program. Interested applicants are encouraged to submit a letter of intent (LOI) prior to submitting their GEMSSTAR application to NIA. The GEMSSTAR program offers two years of support for small research projects to physicians trained in medical or surgical specialties who are focusing on the aging-related aspects of their specialties. Recipients can qualify for up to $150,000 in direct research funding. The deadline to apply is Wed., Oct. 7.
The Jahnigen Career Development Award and the T. Franklin Williams Award offer funding for a Professional Development Plan (PDP) to complement the R03 research project funded under the NIA's GEMSSTAR award mechanism. The AGS's Geriatrics-for-Specialists Initiative serves as a central coordinating body for the Jahnigen Award for surgical subspecialists. The AGS Health in Aging Foundation offers the Williams Award for geriatricians. Please visit program websites for details. The deadlines to apply are also Wed., Oct. 7.
