Dr. Shirley H. Bush is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine (Division of Palliative Care) at the University of Ottawa, Ottawa, Canada, and an Investigator with the Bruyère and Ottawa Hospital Research Institutes. After working as a general practitioner in inner London, UK, she trained as a specialist in Palliative Medicine in Australia and New Zealand. Dr. Bush has worked as a Palliative Care physician for over 25 years in inpatient palliative care units, hospices, palliative care consultative services in acute care hospitals and in the community in a range of countries: UK, New Zealand, Australia and Canada and embarked on her academic career in 2008. She is a member of the Pan-Canadian Palliative Care Research Collaborative, and the Australia/UK/Canada SUNRISE (Studies to UNderstand and Improve delirium care in palliative settings) Research Collaborative which started in 2017. Dr. Bush has experience conducting research on delirium management for patients receiving palliative care and the implementation of delirium guidelines. She was the invited project lead for the 2018 European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Delirium Clinical Practice Guideline. Dr. Bush is also interested in the experiential impact of delirium on patients, families, and professional caregivers.
