Gen Shinozake

MD

Dr. Shinozaki is a physician scientist, Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University School of Medicine. Completed psychiatry residency under Dr. Kemuel Philbrick, and psychosomatic medicine fellowship under Dr. James Rundell, both at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN. He was mentored by Dr. David Mrazek for his genomics research. His research interests include: novel bispectral EEG (BSEEG) device development for detection of delirium and prediction of patient outcomes, epigenetic investigation of pathophysiology of neuroinflammation and cognitive decline, animal model of delirium/neuroinflammation using BSEEG and molecular genetics for discovery of new therapeutics, and bioinformatics approach for genome-wide genetics/epigenetics data analysis. He has been funded by NIH, NSF, industry as well as internal funding.
He received numerous awards including the APM William Web Fellowship Award in 2008, Howard Rome Mayo Clinic Resident Best Academic Writing Award as well as Best Grand Rounds Award in 2008, University of Iowa Helen Johnson Scholar in Informatics in 2014, University of Iowa Inventor Award in 2016, and Dlin/Fischer Clinical Research Award in 2018 and Visiting Professor Award both from the Academy of Consultation Liaison Psychiatry for his innovative work on development of a point-of-care EEG device to screen delirium.
