The 7th annual American Delirium Society meeting began with a full day preconference. The morning provided a background orientation on delirium including epidemiology, phenotypes, pathophysiology, monitoring and outcomes. Once the overview of the basics was completed, the discussion focused on what to do once a patient has delirium such as non-pharmacological techniques for prevention and management, as well as pharmacological management. The afternoon session was conducted at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. After watching a video simulation and receiving primers on adult and pediatric delirium management, participatory delirium simulations took place at the Center for Experiential Learning and Assessment.
