Featured Speaker - Irina Petracche, MD

Dr. Irina Petrache is Chief of the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine and Associate Vice President for Faculty Development at National Jewish Health in Denver, where she is Professor of Medicine and the Wollowick Endowed Chair in COPD Research. She is also Professor of Medicine at the University of Colorado and co-director of the T32 Training Program in Pulmonary Sciences.

Trained in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Petrache is a physician-scientist whose research focuses on emphysema, COPD, and lung injury and repair related to smoking, vaping, and viral infections. She is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine, and critical care medicine, with clinical interests including COPD, emphysema, sarcoidosis, acute lung injury, and pulmonary hypertension.

A longtime leader within the American Thoracic Society, she served as ATS President for 2024–2025 and has received numerous awards recognizing excellence in research, teaching, and academic leadership.
