ADS 2017 Presidential Address

 

American Delirium Society President Pratik Pandharipande, MD, MSCI, FCCM of Vanderbilt University Medical Center began his presidential address by stating that everyone at the conference was bound by a common goal to advance delirium education, research and awareness. He urged that patients must be kept in the center as interdisciplinary collaborative seek to combat delirium.

Dr. Pandharipande provided a year in review stating that:

  • There has been collaboration between the international organizations
    • European Delirium Society
    • Australasian Delirium Association
    • Scottish Delirium Association
  • A new relationship has been formed with the Network for Investigation of Delirium across the US (NIDUS)
  • The American Nurses Association partnered with ADS to develop an educational website for nurses, patients and families at www.nursingworld.org/Delirium-Prevent-Identify-Treat
  • Core outcome sets have been developed for effectiveness trials of interventions to prevent and/or treat delirium (Del-COrS)
  • And a Brain Health Initiative has been formed to ensure that patients and their physicians are informed about the potential impact of anesthesia and surgery on the brain
